So since I have been home I have tried to get into gig photography. Last weekend I got to photograph Peter Murphy with David J. on his Ruby Tour, celebrating 40 years of Bauhaus. I had mixed feelings about this, certain music should be left in it's time and place and Bauhaus has always been one of those to me, I didn't really enjoy the 1998 reformation and didn't even know the 2006 tour had taken place. Originally I decided to see them in Northampton rather than London, fancied seeing it on my own. Eventually I ended up with a Foto Pass courtesy of John Robb of Louder Than War and got some good shots. Also got introduced to a fantastic band called Desert Mountain Tribe. Looking forward to doing it all again....

I first came across this festival in 1991 when I was making a Visa run to Penang from Phuket. Happened upon it by accident but spent the whole day following the events and taking pics on my old Nikon point and push that served me so well during those years. It was some years until I finally got to see it again, 20 in fact when I went with a colleague in 2011. This time I'm taking my wife who I first took to Penang 24 years ago on our first ever trip away together. Hopefully the Kashmir restaurant where she first experienced such food is still there so we can make a return visit.

December 23rd I took one last trip for the year to the Chinese Opera. Having photographed Bangkok's Premier troupe SAI YONG HONG, I looked some others and found that another recommended troupe TIA KIA E LAI HENG were performing at a shrine in the Theppratarn Community adjacent to the entrance of the Thai Tobacco monopoly on Rama IV Road. I went straight from work and despite some busy body who was nothing to do with the troupe giving me a traditional "Cannot" the troupe were quite welcoming and said I could. They are certainly a smallr troupe than SYH, but they were friendly and allowed me access to everything.
